Description: How to Make a Rhinestone & Glitter Holiday Shirt with a vinyl cutter Mixing different design materials is called Multidec or Multi-decoration, because you are using more than one type of material to decorate your apparel. Accenting your htv with rhinestones not only enhances the look, it adds value to the shirt and helps your designs or business stand out against others. The added bonus: your cost to create multidec shirts is minimal. In this tutorial recorded Live, industry expert Matt Vassallo from The Rhinestone World teaches how to cut glitter htv, the Magic Flock template material, create a rhinestone transfer and press multiple shirts. The first step to multidec shirts is to cut your glitter htv. This way, you can weed the htv while your rhinestone Magic Flock template is cutting. Load your glitter heat transfer vinyl (htv) into your vinyl cutter shiny side down. The heat activated adhesive is on the dull side of the htv and the shiny plastic carrier sheet holds your vinyl in-place as you cut, weed (remove excess vinyl) and align the design to your shirt. Make sure to Mirror your design before sending to your cutter. You cut the design in reverse as you are cutting from the back of the htv. After the htv is cut, either load the second color of htv into your carrier or if it's a single color design, load your Magic Flock Template material into your vinyl cutter. Adjust your cut settings, if needed. We have found peeling the protective paper backing from your Magic Flock and loading it directly to your sticky cutting mat will help with weeding out the tiny holes for your rhinestones. Send your rhinestone design to your vinyl cutter. Do NOT mirror rhinestone designs. While your Magic Flock is cutting, weed your glitter htv. A handy tip for weeding glitter htv: lower your heated heat press platen for a few seconds. Open your press and place your htv carrier side down on the now warmed lower platen. This warmth helps weed your glitter htv like butter! This handy trick works for other htv, as well. After your Magic Flock is cut, peel the template from the corner and off of your cutting mat. Keep the Magic Flock low and close to the mat as you peel. These tips work to help weed out the holes that your rhinestones will be brushed into. Scrape the tiny dots into the trash using a squeegee. Place your Magic Flock template material on your work station. Pour a generous pile of hotfix rhinestones onto your template. Use a rhinestone brush to brush large, gentle circles to brush the rhinestones into the holes of your template. The shape of the stones, the fuzzy fibers on the Magic Flock and the rhinestone brush all work together to drop the rhinestones into the holes right side up. If you have some rhinestones falling in upside down, simply brush a small pile of stones over the top, brush away the excess and the upside down rhinestones will be replaced with rhinestones falling in right side up. Brush the excess stones off the template using straight strokes. Use our heat resistant Acrylic Hotfix Tape to pick up your rhinestone design. Hold the tape in a U shape and drop straight down without hesitation onto your design and template. Brush across the surface of the Acrylic Hotfix tape with your hands to adhere the rhinestones to the tape. Lift your rhinestone design and you have now made a Rhinestone Transfer. Place this transfer back on the white, bumpy backing of the Acrylic Hotfix tape until you are ready to apply it to your apparel. Press the glitter htv to your shirt following manufacturer specifications. Siser Glitter htv presses at 325 degrees F for 15 seconds with medium/firm pressure. Open your platen and remove the carrier sheet. Align your rhinestone transfer to your apparel, making sure that none of your rhinestones overlap any of your vinyl. Hotfix rhinestones must be pressed directly to the cloth fibers for apparel. Press your rhinestones to your shirt. We recommend pressing at 325-330 degrees F for 15 seconds for ss06 and ss10 rhinestones. Larger rhinestones require longer dwell as well as higher heat for the heat-activated adhesive disc on the back to become liquified. Open your platen, remove your shirt from your press and gently peel your hotfix tape from the rhinestone design. This tape can be saved and reused a few times easily. If your shirt is a thin material, please place your hand inside to separate the front from the back right after opening your heat press. You don't want to accidentally glue the shirt closed!
